The golden field of sunflowers swaying in the breeze near Allora, Queensland were the inspiration behind our Bohemian Sunflower Gift Card. In the early months of the year, the sunflowers begin to bloom and attract hundreds, if not thousands of people to wander amongst their petals. It is a beautiful and entrancing sight to see and is the very reason why we wanted to capture that vision within a piece of art. Sunflowers are often regarded as a ‘happy’ flower because of their bright yellow hues and we love that such a simple flower can bring so many smiles and so much happiness to just one person.
We took a road trip throughout Queensland one January, to explore the wonders of nature and discover untouched areas of wilderness. While on the road towards Warwick, we were greeted by the most magnificent fields of luscious green and gold. The sunflowers spread across the hills as far as the eye could see and as we ventured closer towards them and wandered amongst the stems, we could see a myriad of bees and butterflies fluttering from petal to petal. After visiting this beautiful place, we made the decision to design a gift card that captures that same beauty. After the road trip had ended, we headed to our workshop which is tucked inside the rainforest and sat down at the workbench to bring the art to life. We had many photos from the trip to draw inspiration from, as well as a bouquet of fresh sunflower blossoms.
While we were at the work bench to create the Bohemian Sunflower Gift Card, we used the photos of sunflowers, the real flowers and a few rough sketches to piece our design together. We selected a colour palette of bright yellows, vibrant oranges, soft browns and lush greens – all of which are part of our non-toxic, environmentally friendly pen collection. As with all our designs, we started in the centre of the page to first draw the seeds of the sunflower, before working our way out to the petals and then eventually to the leaves.
We also utilised 100% recycled paper to draw this design before taking it to our printer in Brisbane who transformed it into a collection of gift cards which are all made with 100% recycled materials. There are several options why we have decided to use a local printer such a reducing carbon emissions due to travel, supporting the local economy and ensuring quality control over all our ethical gift cards.

With our small batch of Bohemian Sunflower Gift Cards printed, we then hand fold each card individually and then pair it with a beautiful, white envelope which has also been made with 100% recycled materials. We then use a sparkling strand of recycled copper wire to tie a ribbon around both the gift card and the envelope and store them carefully on a shelf inside our workshop.
Once we receive your order for one or more gift cards, we then place them inside an unbleached envelope which has also been made with 100% recycled materials and include a special handwritten note and an invitation to join the Sisterhood of Sophia – Our very own community of women across the world who are passionate about sustainable and ethical living. Sendle (Australia’s first carbon neutral shipping company) then come to collect your order from our work shop and deliver it straight to your door while simultaneously offsetting the carbon emissions by supporting reforestation and conservation projects throughout the globe.
