Over the past year, I have created many artworks, all of which are completely unique and have been intricately designed. These are never before seen pieces and its about time that they get the recognition and exposure they deserve!
The Underwater Jungle
This piece was inspired by the desperate need of wanting to rid the ocean of plastic pollution. Far too much litter has been dumped into our oceans and if we don’t start doing something NOW, the effects of this pollution will be irreversible.
Instead of having our oceans littered with plastic, we’d much rather they be littered with marine life, for example, the jellyfish which plastic bags are so commonly mistaken for by turtles. Upon eating a plastic bag, a turtle has almost no chance of survival because the plastic causes huge air bubble in their stomachs, meaning that they are not able to swim below the surface to catch food and avoid the sun. Too many tragic ocean deaths have occurred due to our pollution.
It is my hope that this artwork opens peoples eyes to the damage we are causing and inspires them to make changes in their everyday lives to help solve this problem.

Although I’ve drawn mandalas over and over again, it’s something I never get tired of. Each one turns out completely different to the last and the possibilities are never ending. I wanted to create a mandala bigger and more detailed than I have ever done before and so the “Mystique Mandala” was born.
This piece took a whole other level of concentration and an extremely steady hand. As always when I start a mandala, I never know how its going to turn out and this artwork was no different!

Another jellyfish! Although this piece is naturally linked to the ocean, it actually resembles something completely different. This singular jellyfish alone in the vast ocean represents people who aren't afraid to forge their own path. The ones who aren't scared to dream, sing their own tune and stand out from the crowd.
Personally, I think this is something that everyone should be aiming for. To be completely unique and not have to rely on other opinions to shape who they are. Lets all be dreamers, achievers, go-getters, free and happy!

The Earth Day 2018 campaign is to end plastic pollution! We will all be rejoicing when this day finally comes and our planet can breathe again. Did you know that every year in New York alone, enough single use plastic bags are used to stretch to the moon and back 13 times! (Earth Day Organisation).
It’s disgraceful that we’ve allowed the problem to get this bad but luckily if we all take action now, there’s things we can do to help end plastic pollution.
Make sure you get on board before Earth Day on April 22nd! Below is the official Earth Day Organisation 2018 Campaign:
A World Without Plastic Pollution - Earth Day 2018 Campaign
From poisoning and injuring marine life to disrupting human hormones, from littering our beaches and landscapes to clogging our waste streams and landfills, the exponential growth of plastics is now threatening the survival of our planet.
In response, Earth Day 2018 will focus on fundamentally changing human attitude and behavior about plastics and catalyzing a significant reduction in plastic pollution.
Our strategy to End Plastic Pollution will:
• Lead and support the adoption of a global framework to regulate plastic pollution
• Educate and mobilize citizens across the globe to demand action from governments and corporations to control and diminish plastic pollution
• Inform and activate citizens to take personal responsibility for the plastic pollution that each one of us generates by choosing to reject, reduce, reuse and recycle plastics
• Work with universities, school teachers and students to End Plastic Pollution
• Work with other organizations and networks and make Earth Day 2018 a platform to End Plastic Pollution by developing resources that others can use and build partnerships.
• Promote the work that cities and local governments are doing to tackle plastic pollution
• Empower journalists across the globe to report on the problem and its emerging solutions.
Earth Day Network will leverage the platform of Earth Day, April 22, 2018 and the growing excitement around the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2020. We will work with key constituencies and influencers to build a world of educated consumers of all ages who understand the environmental, climate and health consequences of using plastics.
We will engage and activate our global network of NGO’s and grassroots organizations, campus youth, mayors and other local elected leaders, faith leaders, artists and athletes, and primary and secondary students and teachers.
We will organize events in all continents of the world, build a global following and activate citizens to join our End Plastic Pollution advocacy campaigns.
In sum, we will use the power of Earth Day to elevate the issue of plastic pollution in the global agenda and inspire and demand effective action to reduce and control it.
The Sophia. contribution to the 2018 Earth Day campaign are our sustainable and reusable jellyfish tote bags. These sturdy, stylish and practical bags were made in collaboration with Ocean Crusaders in a bid to stop the use of plastic bags and work towards a more sustainable approach. 50% of the profits from the sales of these bags are going directly to Ocean Crusaders to help fund their beach clean ups and their work on educating the public.
Earth Day is on the 22nd of April but to ensure you do your bit to support the campaign, purchase an eco-friendly tote bag here: https://www.sophiamulheran.com/limited-edition-products.html

We are so excited that the Queensland Government is phasing out plastic bags by this year and that our environment will soon be cleaner and greener. This movement is in line with the sustainability and eco-friendliness that Sophia. supports and to celebrate this incredible change, we would like to announce that the newest products being introduced to the Sophia. range, are environmentally friendly tote bags!
These durable bags are a replacement for plastic and can be used over and over again for grocery shopping, as a beach bag as well as everyday use. Make sure you purchase your hand designed bag to have ready for when plastic bags are no longer an option. Do your bit to make Australia cleaner and our oceans free of plastic.
We are thrilled to announce that we have just launched our jellyfish tote bags in collaboration with Ocean Crusaders, a Brisbane based organisation who work tirelessly to clean our oceans and educate the public.
“The greatest issue our oceans face is that the world is unaware of the problem we are causing. The convenient plastic bag and plastic products are everywhere and no one thinks of where they are going. Humans slaughter thousands of dolphins, turtles and sharks and hundreds of whales every year with little knowledge of what damage we are causing. With representatives across the globe and growing constantly, our education program is a unique learning tool and available to everyone free of charge.”
Sophia Mulheran designs has created an intricate jellyfish design for the purpose of printing it onto reusable and eco-friendly cotton bags to use for shopping and every day use. The jellyfish symbolises the plastic bags that turtles mistake for food and looks to the future when our environment will hopefully be free from this toxic and harmful waste.
Across Queensland, plastic bags will no longer be available in retailers and so these bags are the perfect alternative. These carefully designed tote bags are great for everyday use as well as raising awareness for our precious sea life and reducing plastic waste.
50% percent of the profits are going straight to Ocean Crusaders to help them to continue the work they already do as well as supporting their many campaigns. If you’d love to do your part and stop using plastic bags while supporting wonderful initiatives, then purchase your very own tote bag under our “Limited Edition” section.
If you’ve got feedback, questions or queries about this campaign, make sure you let us know!
Happy Clean Up Australia Day! For the past few months, the Sophia. Team and a few dedicated ocean lovers have been cleaning up the beaches, mangroves and foreshores of the local Brisbane area to free our seas of rubbish that definitely doesn't belong.
In one afternoon alone, an entire trailer load of rubbish was removed which is both tragic (because there was that much rubbish in such a small area) but also a relief because that toxic and harmful waste is no longer clogging our waterways.
Surprisingly, the majority of rubbish removed was not plastic, but glass. A collection of strange objects were also dragged from the mud including half a bike, a pair of gumboots, a full bottle of perfume and the detached piece of elastic from a pair of undies.
According to the National Geographic, there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. Of that mass, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibres per square kilometre litter the deep sea. We don’t know about you, but we’re disgusted at the fact we’ve let this problem become so overwhelmingly large and quite simply, detrimental to our environment.
We’re hoping to continue our ocean clean ups every week because we know that it is definitely having a positive impact on our marine life and we’d like to see the fauna and flora flourish for a long time to come.
To do your part in helping keep the rubbish from our waterways please:
If we all work together on this, we’ll be able to help unclog the oceans and free our sea life from disturbing and unfair deaths. Please help to make a difference soon as we don't want it to become too late to fix!
Let us know what you did for Clean Up Australia Day!
Here at Sophia. we are all about making our business as ethical and sustainable as possible. To offset our emissions and travel footprint from posting our products to our wonderful customers, we’ve decided to plant trees to make our Earth that little bit cleaner and greener.
Did you know that one tree can offset as much as 22 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year and can sequester one tonne of carbon dioxide by the time it is 40 years old? We believe this is the perfect solution to offset emissions because naturally, these trees are providing us with precious oxygen over and over again.
Last week, eleven Lilly Pilly trees were planted in Brisbane in support of our initiative. Lilly Pillys (also known as Acmena Smithii) are native to Australia, specifically to Queensland. The ripe fruits can be eaten and the trees themselves make the perfect addition to any garden.
We can't wait to see these beautiful trees flourish and provide our environment with the boost it needs. This initiative will continue as more and more shipments are made and soon we hope to have a whole forest of native trees that will benefit our environment and community.
As always, we are open to suggestions so if you can think of any other ethical or sustainable changes that we can make to our business, please let us know! Thank you for purchasing items thoughtfully and for helping to make a difference! Love and happiness, Sophia.
From stripping wire to untwisting each individual strand, did you know that each of our copper bowls and plates takes more than 9 hours to create? Endless hours have been spent in the workshop to craft the 100% recycled copper wire into beautiful creations.
We love the gorgeous copper colour and although its an extremely time consuming process, we’re in love with the finished product. Copper can bring any space to life and we think it goes exceptionally well with fresh fruit and a bunch of freshly picked flowers.
Because of our overwhelming obsession with copper, we’ve compiled this list of 101 uses for our copper plates and bowls:
